Jeurel Singleton
Dr. Jeurel Singleton, or Dr. Critter as she was affectionately dubbed during
the Spring 1999 Semester At Sea (Study abroad program through the
Institute for Shipboard Education of the University of Pittsburgh)
voyage with MTV "Road Rules" students, has over 20 years of
experience teaching Biological Sciences in Canada and the United
States. She specializes in General Biology for majors and non-majors,
Entomology, Parasitology, Environmental Sciences, Medical and
Veterinary Entomology, Natural History of the Vertebrates, Ecology,
and Conservation Biology. She has traveled extensively, literally
circling the earth, and has many delicious insect recipes. Dr. Critter
is the woman you want to be stranded on a deserted island with.
Jeurel grew up with six siblings on a very poor farm in Arkansas. She loves
hunting (with bow and arrow, mostly), fishing, and hiking; and is a
certified Creek (Muskogee Tribe) medicine woman. She is currently
working on a memoir about growing up poor in the south during
the "Jim Crow" days, writing a textbook on Environmental Science and
one on Medical and Veterinary Entomology, and also enjoys writing
children stories and poems.
